PRETTY WOMAN

The film “Pretty Woman” is a romantic comedy by Garry Marshall. The protagonists are: Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. The film was premiere in 1990 in the United States of America.

I chose this film because it is my favourite movie and I like the romantic films, because I am a very romantic person.

This film is about a business man and sometimes he travel to “Los Ángeles”, he is staying in a very luxury hotel, in the suite, one night he meets Vivian.
Edward Lewis (the rich man) invites Vivian to go with him to the hotel in his car. He thought that he would not fall in love with Vivian but he did Vivian stayed with Edward one week, when he works, she try to buy stylish clothes but she doesn´t get it, because the people looks bad. The next day, Edward accompany her to buy clothes and step to step they get to know and he invites her to making trips, to dinner in a luxurious restaurants…

In the end, when they separate, they think that they are in love. At finally, Edward, will pick to Vivian to her hotel and he gives her a bouquet of flowers.
My favourite scene is when they go to the opera in the private jet of Edward because, in this scene of the film, he thinks that she is his love.

I strongly recommend the film “Pretty Woman” because I like Richard Gere and Julia Roberts very much, they are two actors that I like. It’s a film that never will go out of style.

By ADA: Julia Roberts, a famous person

Julia Roberts is my favourite actress because I think that she is very beautiful and I like her movies because she almost always works in romantic films: The Mexican, My best friend wedding, runaway bride. I like romantic films.

Now, I will explain her biography:
Julia Roberts was born in Georgia, in 1967.She is an actress and a producer. She won two Golden globe Awards for the movie “Pretty Woman” and for the history of the life on “Erin Brockovich”.

Julia Roberts, was the highest paid actress in Hollywood. Thought she wanted to be a veterinarian.
In her personal life, she had a lot of boyfriends. On 1993, she was married to Lyle Lovelt, but in March 1995 they got divorced. Now, she is married to Daniel Moder; they met in the film “The Mexican”, he worked as a camera. They got married in Mexico; she has a ranch. She has three children.

Now, she believes in and practices Hinduism. I think that Julia has a good heart with children, because she helps Unicef and in my opinion, famous people and rich people should help in these situations because they have a lot of money.

I think that she is a very good person.

By SERGIO: Describing a house or flat

If I were rich, I would buy a house. My gorgeous house would be like this in The Toscana (it’s an advertisement):

“This house is a beautiful building and it’s perfectly situated in the heart of The Toscana.
It’s 200-square-metre and it’s a magnificent opportunity in a new area. It has on the first floor an ideal kitchen, a luxurious living/dining room with fireplace, and a modern bathroom. On the second floor, it has two spacious bedrooms and a nice terrace with a breathtaking view of The Toscana. In the terrace there is one perfect table with chairs where you can to enjoy reading books. The house has wooden floors and wooden steps. It has big windows and it’s very light.

The neighbourhood where is situated this superb house is lovely. It’s ten minutes away from the village, so you can arrive to the shops or to the supermarket very quick.
Finally, the house is ideal for a family with one child or two children. It’s a no-smoking house and pets are allowed.”

THE GHOSTS OF IZIEU

Resultado de imagen de THE GHOSTS OF IZIEUMy English teacher Maria, asked me to read a second book of Intermediate level to practice and to improve my reading. My second book choosen was: The ghosts of Izieu.
The plot is about a very sad story where the main characters were forty-four children that lived during the Second Word War (1939-45).
Elise went to a small village called Izieu with her father Steve and her stepmother Carol during holidays. They went here because Steve loved history and he knew that in this village occurred something terrible and he never wanted to forget the millions of people who died in wars.
One day, Elise woke up and she saw a mysterious image. She said it to Steve and Carol, but they didn’t believe her. Next day, Elise saw again the same image in her bedroom: she could see boys and girls in coats, they were carrying packages and some had bags over their shoulders, and there was an army lorry.
After that, she got up and she went to the village square, where she saw a small group of boys around a war memorial. There was a boy shouting to another. This boy was very nervous, and the rest of the boys left him. Then, Elise went with him and she started to speak. He looked afraid and in trouble, but Elise asked him some questions. She knew that his name was Stefan and he was working in a farm called Lolinoz. After that, he came back to Lolinoz and Elise was walking.
Elise saw the village’s church and she decided to go in. She was watching some pictures, beautiful windows and the Visitor’s Book, where she saw that the last sign was in 1944. Suddenly, she heard some steps. She turned back and saw an old woman who called her “Eloise”, and she said her: “You must not walk in the village. It is not safe.”. The old woman put a hand on her arm and Elise said her that she wasn’t Eloise, she was Elise.
Elise tried to pull away from the woman, but the woman was stronger. Elise asked her where they had gone, and she answered to Lolinoz. In that moment, Elise was less nervous because she thought that this way she would meet Stefan again.
Alter some minutes, they arrived to Lolinoz’s farm. The rooms were dark and the woman pushed Elise up the stairs. Then, they arrived to a room where there were a lot of children and a new woman called Sabina. She was the person who looked after these children, and she asked Elise why she had escaped. Elise answered that it was a mistake, that she was Elise, not Eloise. Sabina continued speaking and saying that it was very dangerous to go out because the Gestapo (Germany’s secret police in the Second World War) was near the farm. When Elise listened this, she started to understand all.
Later, a boy came towards her. He said her that his name was Stefan, then, she recognized him: he was the same boy who was speaking with her around the war memorial in the village square, but now he was younger, he was a child.
Both were speaking and Elise definetly understood all: they were in a past time, exactly during the Second World War in 1944. While they were speaking, Stefan realized that Elise knew things that would pass in the future.
Then, he started to do some questions about it, and Elise wouldn’t want to answer too much, but in some of them, she said “trains”, “lorries” and “concentration camps”, and Stefan understood all. After that, Stefan was very sad and Elise was sorry because she had said those things.
That night, Elise thought to exit of the Lolinoz to ask for help to her father, and later to rescue all the children. She jumped throught a window, but she hit the ground and she heard the crack! of her foot. In that moment she couldn’t walk, but she saw a fork that she used like a “leg”. During some minutes she was walking, up to she was very tired and she fell on to soft earth.
It was early morning when Elise woke up and the pain was the same. Suddenly, there were sounds from the village, the sounds of lorries! Elise saw the lorries leaving the road and stopping in the yard of Lolinoz’s farm.
Soldiers of the Gestapo brought down all the children, some of them were only half-dressed, and they were picked up in the lorries and the soldiers shut and locked the gates of the lorries. The foot of Elise didn’t hurt now, only an ache: an ache in her heart.
There weren’t people in the farm, but Elise will tell the story of the children of Lolinoz, the ghosts of Izieu.
Later, she met her father and she asked him if he knew about that place before they came, and they went to the metal plate of the war memorial, where her father read the story of forty-four children taken from their hiding place in the village by the Gestapo. There were tears in their eyes.
Finally, they came back to their holiday home, but before of this, Elise put down some wild flowers next to the war memorial while she said: “Flowers will never be enough.”

The writer of The ghosts of Izieu is James Watson. He is a very successful writer who has written plays for radio, but most of his books are for younger people. This story was written specially for Penguin Readers, but he has written a lot of books more.
He had a wife, Kitty, who died in 1998, and she was a very important person for him. Nowadays, he has three daughters and two granddaughters. He enjoys swimming and the successes of Blackburn Rovers football team, too.

Finally and in my opinion, The ghosts of Izieu is a good book but very sad. I think that this kind of books are important to read, because in this way you know better the History and you can feel the fear that some people suffered in the past.
I recommend this book because you can think about all these people who were good people but they suffered a lot. To read “their” books is a little homage.

By SERGIO: Telling a story

My story happened in winter three years ago. Two friends invited me to go to Andorra with them. I decided to go with them because I wanted to see the snow and to practice some sports, although I didn’t have a lot of money.

We travelled with the new car of one of my friends, which had satnav. He wrote our destination in it: “Andorra”.

During the first part of the journey, we were speaking and listening to music. All was wonderful, till we saw the name of the town and we didn’t see snow neither mountains. We were going all the time in the wrong direction! My friend had written “Andorra” instead of “Andorra La Vella”!

However, we had a good time in “Andorra” because we ate in a good restaurant, and after that, we took the correct final destination. As soon as we arrived, we went skiing. After all, we had a funny journey!

By ADA and SERGIO: GAME OF THRONES – Season 1 – Chapter 8 - SUMMARY and ACTIVITIES

GAME OF THRONES – Season 1 – Chapter 8 - SUMMARY

Hello, we’re Ada and Sergio, and we’re going to talk some minutes about the chapter number 8 of Game of Thrones, and after that, we’re going to do activities about it.

At King’s Landing, Sansa is taking a stroll with her Septa when they hear the sound of a fight down the hall. Then, her Septa orders her to run quickly to her room. During the way, Sansa is captured by The Hound, ordered by The Queen.

Meanwhile, Arya is practicing her swordplay with her dancing master, when Lannister guards interrupt their lesson. The soldiers demand Arya to come with them, but her dancing master defends her and orders her to run away, and then, he fights against the men using his wooden practice sword.

Ned Stark sits in the dungeons, and Varys comes to visit him and to say him that everybody died in the Stark house. Varys also says to Ned that his mercy killed the King, not the wine or the wild boar, and that Tyrion Lannister has escaped.

The Queen and her council convince Sansa to write a letter to her mother and to her brother Robb, and she asks what may happen to her father, and The Queen says that, it depends.

Jon Snow gets news from Ned’s arrest, but he has to defend The Wall. During the night, the Jon’s wolf, called Ghost, hear something: is a White Walker zombie. Finally, Jon Snow burns him.

Robb Stark is informed that his father is arrested and he’s called to King’s Landing, where he will go with his army.

Tyron and Bronn are resting in the forest, when suddenly Shagga, son of Dolf, and his guards appear. Tyron promises them some things and Shagga accepts.

The Dothraki are raiding a village, but Khaleesi orders to stop to her army. They make some people prisoner and they go with Khal Drogo, where a guard of him is feeling offended by Khaleesi. Later, Khal Drogo fights against his guard, and he kills him and rips off his tongue.

In Winterfell, Robb Stark has summoned his bannermen to plan the rescue of his father.

Meanwhile at The Wall, Samwell Tarly speaks about a very old book that he read in Maester Aemon’s library, and he knows more about The White Walkers, such as that only fire will stop them or they’re very high.

Robb has assembled his army and he meets his mother. She agrees with Robb and he wants to visit The Queen. She also lays out the stakes of going to war against the Lannisters, and she says: “If you lose, your father dies. Your sisters die. We die.”

Later, Robb’s guards capture a Lannister scout, who was counting, but he decides to release him.

On the other hand, Tyrion meets his father. Tyrion goes with Bronn and the mountain men warriors that he picked up. The Tyrion’s father asks to Shagga if they want to fight with them, and they’re agree, but only if Tyrion fights with them too.

In King’s Landing, The Queen announces to the noble knight Ser Barristan that is being booted off the Kingsguard. The Queen gives him thanks, but the new King Joffrey accuses him of let his father die. Then, Ser Barristan throws off his armor and then pulls and throws his sword down.

After that, Sansa does a petition for her father’s life. Joffrey answers angrily that her father said that he wasn’t a king, and Sansa says that he was badly hurt and he drank milk of the poppy and he wasn’t himself. She also says that if he has any affection in his heart for her, he has to comply her desire. Joffrey thinks about it, and finally he says: “Your father has to confess and say that I am the King. Or there will be no mercy for him.”

Now, we’re going to do the activities… ¿any victim?

By SERGIO: Game of Thrones and Speed Dating activity

In the English class on the 11st of February in 2015, we had a very good time doing these activities: the exercises of the chapter number seven of Game of Thrones and a special Speed Dating activity about Valentine's Day.

On one hand, we first did the exercises of Game of Thrones. Those exercises were made by Maite and Pilar. After the 'exam', the had prepared a very funny game similar to the 'hangman'. That time, we had to guess letters to complete a sentence of that chapter, and for each letter guessed by each one of us, the gave us a candy. But that game had a final surprise: the student who guessed the sentence completely, got a the best knowledge certificate about the chapter number seven, and the winner was... me! The winner sentence was: "In Game of Thrones, you win or you die". I was very happy! This was my prize:

On the other hand and after the Game of Thrones activity, we had a Speed Dating activity. This time we had to fall in love wearing a paper heart, a paper flower or a tie (I wore a green paper heart), and asking some 'hot' questions, for example: "What should I do to wath a porn film with you?". We laughed a lot while we were also drinking and eating chips. These are some photos during this activity taken by Maria:
